Nihao, (Olá
em chinês)
Enquanto
espero longas horas para o meu embarque no aeroporto de Guangzhou, estou
escrevendo e degustando minha experiência no Mundial de Longboard feminino.
Na tropical
ilha de Hainan ao sul da China, foi realizado o Swatch Girls Pro China, o evento
que define a campeã mundial de Long.
Diferente
do ano passado, chegamos com ótimas condições de onda, um point break de
esquerdas em torno de meio metro com séries de até um metro, o que nos
surpreendeu.
Tratamos então
de correr com as baterias, antes que o mar baixasse, em três dias finalizamos o campeonato, do dia 20 ao dia 23
de novembro.
As
brasileiras que participaram do mundial foram Cristiana Pires, Chloe Calmon,
Atalanta Batista, Karina Abras e Eu.
Atalanta e
Cris apesar de terem surfado bem pararam no 2 round e foram barradas pelas Wini
Paul (Nova Zelândia) e Alice Melissa (Ilhas Reunião) respectivamente. Eu e Karina
avançamos uma fase.
No Round 3 o
surf progressivo de Karina perdeu para o clássico surf californiano de Tory
Gilkerson.
Em minha
bateria enfrentei nada menos que a bicampeã mundial Jennifer Smith. Fiquei
muito feliz porque consegui soltar o
freio de mão, Jen virou faltando 5 minutos para o término.
O melhor de
tudo é que me diverti muito. Ha tempos eu não surfava devido ha algumas
contusões e machucados que tive ao longo desse ano, e mesmo com prancha
emprestada da minha amiga Atalanta tive
uma boa performance.
A melhor
brasileira foi Chloe Calmon que chegou para treinar na China três semanas
antes. A carioca avançou para as quartas de final, perdendo apenas para a vice
campeã da etapa, a australiana Chelsea Williams mostrando um polido e
consistente surf.
Como um
dejavu, pela terceira vez consecutiva na China a havaiana Kelia Moniz e a
australiana Chelsea Willians se encontram na final. Em 2011 Chelsea ganhou o evento, em 2012 foi a vez de Kelia e agora na
melhor de três o Hawaii ficou c a vitória.
Nesse
evento ficou bem claro a tentativa de mudança e a nova preferência da ASP com
relação aos critérios de julgamento do Longboard. O que foi discutido em uma
reunião com todos os atletas tanto o feminino quanto o masculino depois de o
evento ter acabado.
Finalmente
estão valorizando as manobras mais tradicionais, o que causou controvérsias.
Pois a ASP esta querendo resgatar o que foi perdido no longboard ao longo
desses anos de circuito, a “real essência”.
Mas em
contraponto as manobras mais progressivas foram uma evolução da própria
categoria, e o que foi levantado pelos próprios atletas é que eles não deixam
de executar manobras com classe como belos noseridings.
Mas nada
está definido ainda.
Elegemos
representantes entres os atletas Harley Ingleby e Chelsea Williams para serem
os porta vozes na ASP, e tudo será discutido e votado por e-mail, uma vez que
todos só se encontram uma vez ao ano.
Esse foi só
o começo, ainda vai dar o que falar.

While I’m
waiting for my departure at the Guangzhou airport, I’m writing and about my
experience in the World Longboard Contest.
At the
tropical island of Hainnan in the south of China, where the Swatch Girls Pro
China was held, it’s the event that defines the world title.
The surf conditions
when we arrived were different from last year, which impressed us; the left point
break was perfect, breaking about 2-3 feet.
So we tried
to run with the heats before the waves disappear. In three days we finished the
contest (nov 20 to 23).
The
Brazilians girls who participated in the world contest were Cristiana Pires, Chloe
Calmon, Atalanta Batista, Karina Abras and I.
Atalanta and
Cris surfed very well but they were stopped in round 2 by Wini Paul (New Zealand)
and Alice Melissa (Reunion Island) respectively. Karina and I advanced one
stage further.
In Round 3 the
classic Californian surfing of Tory Gilkerson beat the progressive surfing of
Karina.
In my heat
I faced the two times World champion Jennifer Smith. What a pleasure to surfed
with her, and the best thing was, I had so much fun.
For a long
time I haven’t been surfing because of some injuries and sores that I have had
this year, even with a borrowed board from my friend Atalanta I had a good
performance, but Jen at the end of the heat changed the scores and won.
The best
Brazilian was Chloe Calmon, who arrived 3 weeks before to train for the contest.
She advanced into the quarterfinals, just beat for the runner-up of the event, Chelsea
Williams, showing a polish and consistent surfing.
Like deja vu, for the 3rd time consecutive in
China the Hawaiian Kelia Moniz and the Australian Chelsea Willians met each
other in the finals. In 2011 Chelsea won. 2012 was the turn of Kelia and now a
best of three, the title goes to Hawaii. What an Epic Final!
In this
event the attempt of change and the new preference of the ASP (The Association
of Surfing Professionals) about the criteria of judgement in the longboard were
so visible.
This was discussed
at the meeting after the contest, between competitors (males and females) and
ASP staff.
Finally the
ASP decided to value the traditional maneuvers of the Longboard, a rescue of
the Old School.
These
caused controversies. Main the athletes disagree. They claimed that the
progressive maneuver is an evolution from the Longboard, and do not stop doing
maneuvers with class and elegance like a beautiful noseridings.
But
anything is right yet.
We’ve had
elected 2 of the athletes, Harley Ingleby e Chelsea Williams to be our representatives
at ASP, so everything will be discussed and voted by email, since that
everybody just have to meet once a year.
This is
just the beginning
